Canyons in the Pyrenees. France-Spain. 35 descents
SKU: CPFrSp35descents OverviewCanyons in the Pyrenees. France-Spain. 35 descents
35 descents on both sides of the western Pyrenees
Author: Christian ROUSSEAU
Main language(s): French
This concise guidebook, barely 80 pages long, gets straight to the point. The 35 descents cover two main areas: the Sierra de
Guara, where 15 descents are described across its various valleys, and 8 other routes in the Ossau Valley on the French side. The remaining descents are located in areas near the Sierra de Guara, with the exception of Lizibar (southwest of Pamplona). This book complements the first volume, published a year earlier: Canyons, Sierra de Guara, Northern Spain. 40 Descents , by the same author.
Each canyon is summarized on a double-page spread, which includes:
the name of the canyon, its starting altitude, a color indicating the level of difficulty, the season for canyoning, the type of rock, the rating, the vertical drop, the length, and the average time required.
- A short, concise text describing the descent, potential points of caution, and recommended ropes
- A brief description of the access points, approach, descent, and return, with GPS coordinates and their location on the map
- A topographic map of the area, with access points highlighted
- A schematic drawing representing the canyon's geographical layout and the main obstacles along the route
- Finally, one (or sometimes two or three) photos.
The book includes an introduction with recommendations, a review of the rating system, a glossary, and a general map to help understand the location of the different sites. At the end of the book, there is a list of canyons classified according to their "difficulty."
- Main language(s): This is the language of the main text, of the descriptions of the canyons.
