Here ends what began as a leisure activity for ourselves, and it's reflected in the creation of this guide. Don't miss the Val de Chistau, this wonderful Pyrenean valley with a multitude of possibilities for all mountain lovers. We won't miss it, because after visiting it, we're already planning our next return.
Prames, publisher of Spanish topographic maps, is also used to canyon topoguides. Here is a small, effective and fairly exhaustive topoguide on a sector close to those well known to canyoners, but this time to the east of the Rio Cinca which descends from the Pyrenees on the Spanish side via Bielsa: the Val de Chistau. No less than 36 descents are described, divided into 3 sectors: the "Rio Irues" sector (9 descents), the upstream "Cinqueta de la Pez" sector (3 descents), and the "Cinqueta" sector (24 descents).
Each canyon sheet covers a double page, grouping the following information:
- the interest of the canyon (one to four stars)
- the aquatic character (a more or less full drop)
- a catchy phrase,
- a description of the approach walk to the descent and the return walk.
- an insert summarizing the technical information (rating, difference in altitude, entrance altitude, exit altitude, type of equipment, number of rappels, greatest waterfall height, presence of escape route, advised rope length, orientation, practice period, necessary shuttle, history of the first descent, type of rock, time of approach, descent and return, observations)
- a simplified map showing the canyon, access points and parking...
- a simplified topographic profile of the canyon with an indication of the rappel lengths and the anchors present,
- some photos.
The book is also accompanied by 15 maps printed on water-resistant paper. The maps, in A5 format, present the aerial photo on which are printed the contour lines as well as the access points and other points of interest useful for the descent.
