This Spanish-language guidebook presents 50 canyons in the province of Castellón, in the Valencian Community, located on the Mediterranean coast in southern Catalonia. This full-color book lists the canyons of three massifs: the Els Ports/Alt Maestrat massif, the Alcalátén massif, just south of the former, and the nearby Alto Mijares.
After a short introduction, the book quickly gets to the heart of the matter: the descriptions of the routes. Each of the three areas has a specific introduction and a map to locate the routes in relation to each other. Each entry includes a simplified map showing access points, a topographic profile, a written description of the approaches, some photos, and a summary of technical information (time, rope required, shuttle, elevation gain). The GPS coordinates of the access points (parking, start, exit) are available in UTM format.
At the end of the book, 27 pages reproduce the IGN topographic maps, overlaid with parking areas and access points.
Also noteworthy at the beginning of the book is a general table of all the canyons described, including their main characteristics (time, highest rappel point, number of rappels), as well as a general map.
In short, a very comprehensive work on this area.
