Main language(s): this is the language of the main text, of the descriptions of the canyons.

Romania is not (yet) a well-known destination for canyoneers in Western Europe. However, this country is crossed by several mountain ranges, mainly belonging to the Carpathians, which form an arc covering a large part of the center of the country.

The Eastern Carpathians (Carpații Orientali): Located in the east, these ranges are wooded, with peaks exceeding 2,000 m.
The Southern Carpathians (Carpații Meridionali), also called the Transylvanian Alps. These are the highest mountains in Romania, with the highest point Moldoveanu (2,544 m).
The Romanian Western Carpathians (Carpații Occidentali Românești). Less elevated but offering karst reliefs and numerous caves or gorges.

With the publication of this guidebook, this should facilitate the discovery of this new destination. Indeed, this book presents 35 descents spread over 6 regions.
Each site is the subject of a fairly comprehensive descriptive sheet. It contains all the elements necessary for preparing an outing:

  • interest of the route out of 5 stars,
  • summary of the technical elements (French rating, quality of the equipment, type of rock, number of rappels, height of the highest waterfall, recommended body, descent time, length of the canyon, presence of shuttle, elevation of the approach, departure altitude, approach time, return time, return elevation, and even the quality of the mobile phone reception!)
  • a 3D view of the aerial photo, with superimposed accesses and points of interest of the approach and return of the canyon. Each point is the subject of a QR code allowing its geolocation on Google maps.
  • a description (in Romanian... but today translation apps will help you) of the accesses and the route, accompanied by numerous captioned photos.
  • a general view of the watershed with a description of the flood risk.
  • a schematic profile of the section, with numerous technical annotations.

At the beginning of each of the six regions, a summary table of the canyons concerned, accompanied by a general map, allows their location.
